  2. This is version 2.0 of EMPLANT's e586DX/SX emulation software.

  4. LOOK AT YOUR EMPLANT BOARD AND MAKE SURE THAT ALL OF THE CUSTOM LOGIC
  5. CHIPS (they have white labels) HAVE A DATE CODE OF 4693.  IF NOT, CONTACT
  6. UTILITIES UNLIMITED FOR A COMPLETE UPGRADE SET.

  8. We have not been able to complete our licensing agreement for a suitable
  9. PC BIOS to use with the e586DX emulation.  So, at this time, a BIOS is
  10. *not* included with this software.  Due to complications in trying to
  11. obtain several different BIOS licenses, we have decided to write our
  12. own BIOS, which is currently being worked on.  Until our BIOS is released,
  13. you will need to find a suitable BIOS.

  15. You can use any FLASH ROM upgrade (a BIOS image) with the e586DX emulation.
  16. We highly recommend AMI-BIOS (from American Megatrends).  If you already
  17. *own* a PC that uses AMI-BIOS, you can either dump your BIOS from your
  18. machine, or call American Megatrend's BBS and download the latest FLASH
  19. ROM image for your machine, and use that with your emulation.  The phone
  20. number for American Megatrend's BBS is included with the system manual
  21. for your machine.  Virtually any BIOS for a standard AT ISA BUS machine
  22. will work.  BIOS upgrades can be purcahsed from any PC clone dealer.

  24. We strongly suggest that you do not use virtual 86 mode as the emulation
  25. can be as much as 3 times slower, depending on how many inner-mixed
  26. protected mode/virtual86 mode/MMU operations are taking place.

  28. There are several PC utilities and drivers included with this software.
  29. You will need make a PC formatted 720K (or 1.44mb) disk using CrossDOS
  30. or something similar, and copy the file 'runme.exe' from the 'PC_UTILS'
  31. drawer included with this software.  Once you have copied it to the
  32. PC formatted disk, start the emulation and copy the file to your PC's
  33. (emulation) hard drive partition.  Now, type 'runme' and you will see
  34. that two files are created on your hard drive (one executable, and one
  35. data file).  Run the executable by typing 'install'.  This program will
  36. copy all of the driver software and utilities to the appropriate places,
  37. and walk you through setting up the options for the various drivers.

  39. If you experience problems running Windows, try using the /s option
  40. to start it (ie: win /s).

  49. If you obtained this software update as an LHA archive:

  51. In order to use the HardDisk_Installer script you have two
  52. choices:
  53.  
  54. 1) Format a floppy disk with the name 'e586DX'. MAKE SURE you use FFS
  55.    (FastFileSystem) when formatting the floppy.  Decompress this
  56.    archive to the floppy and double-click on the HardDisk-Installer
  57.    icon.

  59. 2) Decompress the archive into RAD: and assign e586DX: to RAD:

  63. If you obtained this software update as a .DMS file:

  65. Just decompress the file to a floppy and double-click on the
  66. HardDisk-Installer icon.

  70. The PC emulation ABSOLUTELY requires the installation of the MAC emulation
  71. software to run... no exceptions.  RsrvMem *is* used for the PC emulation.
